The Institute for Human Centered Designlibrary is a specialized multi-media library with an incomparable set of materials that cover the last four decades of information and research on design for access. The collection ranges from analyses of design in institutional environments from the 1960s to the most recent magazines, books, video's and CD-ROMs on universal design from across the world.
The library contains print materials on universal design, the Americans with Disabilities Act and other pertinent topics related to access and design. Many print materials are available in braille, audio tape and disk. We also have a unique selection of articles, monographs, video-tapes and slides. The library is available to the general public.
Design students and other students from throughout the region, along with international visitors use the library for research. People with disabilities, families, older people, community support service providers, and designers of all kinds use the library as a resource on access and design. The public is welcome to the use the library weekdays during business hours or by appointment at night and on the weekend.
The collection is named after the Dybwads, the internationally renowned couple who committed their lives to community integration of people with significant disabilities. They bequeathed the Institute for Human Centered Design the portion of their library devoted to design.
