Sandy Matava is the former longtime Commissioner of Massachusetts Department of Social Services, and is currently a Professor and Director of the Center for Public Management at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. She holds an MPA from Suffolk University and has also served in the public sector as Commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind.

With more than a decade of professional working experience in the non-profit world at the Massachusetts Association for the Blind, Ms. Matava currently is involved on a volunteer basis with a number of community based organizations, such as Boston ASAP, Roxbury YouthWorks, the Institute for Human Centered Design, and YouthBuild Boston. She advocates for ways to improve services for families in their communities and to develop ways to better support the organizations and their staffs who provide these services. She lives in Cambridge and Westport, Massachusetts.
