Ricardo Gomes is Director of the Design Center for Global Needs in the DAI Department, a non-profit international research and development center dedicated to promoting responsive design solutions to local, regional and global issues such as: inclusive/universal design, health care, the aging, community development and sustainability. He is on the Board of Directors of the Architectural Foundation of San Francisco; and a member of the Industrial Designers Society of America.
Ricardo Gomes received his M.F.A. in Industrial Design for Low-Income Economies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He also received an M.A. in Architectural Building Technology from School of Architecture and Urban Planning at UCLA; and a B.A. in Industrial Design from Massachusetts College of Art. A former Fulbright Research Scholar in Kenya, Ricardo Gomes, since 1984, has accumulated an extensive background relative to international design research and development in such topics as: Inclusive Design; Universal Design; Design for Developing Countries; Design for Social Responsibility; Global Design & Cultural Identity; Sustainable Design; and Design for Community Development & Mentoring. He has lectured extensively at universities throughout the U.S., Africa, Europe, Latin America and Japan.
Other: Ricardo has been a constant friend of the organization for many years. In 2003, he dedicated his sabbatical year to being our liaison with design schools across Latin America. His roots in Boston make him a regular visitor.
